  • Grooming For Health and Wellness

Grooming your dog regularly has many benefits that people often don’t know. While its important to note groomers are not vets they can often provide early detection of issues with a dogs health such as rashes, skin conditions, ear infections, and more. Hair trimming, bathing, and thorough brushouts will often even prevent these issues. Trimming a dogs nails is important for preventing mobility issues, and broken or ingrown nails.

  • Puppies and Dogs New to Grooming

~Due to loud tools and the new environment the grooming process can often be a big adjustment that requires care, time, and lots of love for puppies and dogs new to being groomed.

~It is recommended that puppies get their first groom at 12 weeks old but it’s always better late than never!

~ For a puppies first groom our main priority is to introduce the puppy to the process and cover the basics, including a sanitary trim, bath, blow-dry, and facial clean up.

~Comfort and desensitization is the goal!

  • How Often Should my Dog be Groomed

~How often your dog should be groomed is very dependent on their breed, what type of haircut you prefer, and upkeep at home. Its important to research the type of hair your dog has to figure out how often they should come to be groomed.

~Longer haircuts on breeds such as poodles and doodles require much more frequent appointments and care at home in order to keep the coat matt free and the dog comfortable. To maintain a longer haircut these dogs will require appointments every 5-6 weeks.

~Medium haircut lengths will generally require haircuts between 6-8 weeks.

~Double coated dog breeds such as golden retrievers or German shepherds benefit from being groomed every 8-12 weeks.

  • Matting Protocol

~When dealing with matting we’ll first assess the level, in less extreme cases often a deep conditioning and careful blow-dry can de matt the coat quite well.

~De matting with a brush can be quite painful for the dog and can cause the dog to be more anxious during future grooming appointments. As such, the more extreme the matting the more likely a shorter haircut or even a shave will be needed. If a haircut other than what was requested is needed for the dogs health and wellness we will call or message the client before proceeding.
